So I fucked up, I was supposed to publish this post on Valentine’s Day but I’m a day late.
I write this post as I’m watching Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix. I love Drew Barrymore, a fellow strong gal, she’s just one of the many celeb gals I admire. As such, I thought I would write a topical post on my favourite quotes about being single and strong (not mutually exclusive!) on Valentines Day.
I’ve written about the importance of celebrating your fellow gals on Galentines Day in a previous post. But I thought I’d reiterate it here. Being single on Valentines Day isn’t the end of the world, frankly, it’s just another day. Don’t shit on other people’s happiness if they want to celebrate it properly, just do what you want to do. Whether that’s a night in on your own, treating it like a ‘normal day’, or going out with your pals – it’s all good. Also learn to date yourself god damn it.
I’m not upset about being single on Valentines Day. In honesty, I’ve never particularly celebrated it even when in relationships. My Finnish friend Ida told me that Valentines Day in Finland is all about love in general. Not just your romantic partner, but your friends, family who mean a lot to you. And I think that’s pretty special.
‘Sexual love is secondary to me right now. I’ve spent a lot of time in my life dedicating myself to love or the pursuit of love or the understanding of love. But for the last few years, my life just hasn’t been about that for me. It’s just not about the mother baggage. It’s not about the boy. It’s about something completely different, and it’s very refreshing. I’m trying to understand it and relish it.’
– Drew Barrymore
“When I get lonely these days, I think: So BE lonely, Liz. Learn your way around loneliness. Make a map of it. Sit with it, for once in your life. Welcome to the human experience. But never again use another person’s body or emotions as a scratching post for your own unfulfilled yearnings.”
– Elizabeth Gilbert
“I have love in my life, I just don’t have a relationship, and that feels really natural right now”
– Taylor Swift
“Why haven’t I got a husband and children?” mused Greta Garbo to the Dutchess of Windsor, “I never met a man I could marry.”

‘Some people said, “Oh. You don’t want to be alone.” And I said, “I’m not alone! I’m with myself. And myself is fabulous.”
– Eva Longoria
“Why is it that people think staying in a bad relationship is better than being single? Don’t they know that being single is the first step to finding a great relationship?”
— Jennifer O’Neill
“You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.”
― Maya Angelou
