4 Video Games to Try If You Loved The Sims

Gosh, I loved The Sims and still do #NeverGrowUp. My biggest achievement to date is not my degree or career, it’s forming a 13 generation family in The Sims. That’s how much time I spent on it growing up. And I think many of you will have had a similar experience.

So here I am presenting 5 more games you can play if you loved The Sims, in no particular order. These games also aren’t as PC as The Sims so bear that in mind!

  1. Cities: Skylines

City Skylines is a much better version of Sim City. You build a city, including everything from residential areas to industrial ones to a tourist attraction. It works a lot better than Sim City and gives you more options and customisation. It’s super addictive and you’ll get really into this quickly promise. Take a look at this Nerdy playthrough from Sips.

  2. Prison Architect

Prison Architect is a simulation game where you essentially build a prison. You have to organise the prisoners and build everything from canteens and cells to visitation rooms. It’s a lot more fun than it sounds, plus because the game loads very quickly and pretty much every laptop should be able to run this. Even my 6 year old Mac does.

  3. Banished

Banished is a city-building strategy game set in a medieval town. Now this is probably one of the more ‘grim’ games as people can starve to death in this game. You get a set of villagers you need to manage and you can expand your city as the game goes on. It includes medieval raids, plagues and all sorts – Definitely a bit different! Banished is only available on PC at the moment, but I only discovered this one recently but it’s fab! Take a look at this playthrough to get an idea.

  4. Spore

Spore is a little bit of an oldie game but it’s still a good one. It’s super cute and inspired by the evolutionary process. So you create a creature, and start off as a microbe, and move up until civilisation. This game has different stages so it still keeps you interested as the game goes on. Honestly I’ve not played this game in a while, but I’ll probably be going back to it soon!

The Sims is a great game but sometimes we want something a little different. These are my picks and they definitely satisfy that need…

What games would you recommend? Any similar ones?

Prison architect sounds so fun, I’m obsessed with games like that. The Sims was my one true love growing up so I may have a little look at these. (And try not to get addicted!!) x

Yes! So good. I’ve been really into these sort of games recently, really good when you discover ones you actually like! x

  • I am a self-proclaimed Sims addict, especially with the Sims 2. I’ve never heard of any of these games, but they all sound right up my alley. I tend to gravitate towards other games I used to play in my childhood, like the original RollerCoaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon. Banished kind of reminds me of the game Age of Empires. Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll definitely check them out!

Thanks! Gosh I remember Rollercoaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon – Deffo a good one. I’m on the Sims 4 at the moment and it surprisingly works very well on my Mac, better than Sims 3?! x

I love the idea of Banished. It sounds so fun though a bit morbid haha. Thanks for sharing this list, Elleanor!

      Haha just a little bit morbid… you’re welcome! x

  • I love cities skylines but haven’t played any of the others on the list. So much for growing up – I just bought the Sims 4 the other day!

I remember being really interested in Spore when it came out but then completely forgot about it! I’m all about Theme Hospital and Rollercoaster Tycoon! x

Theme Hospital is a quality game. I downloaded it for a fiver the other day – Totally worth it. x

  • This is such a throwback – I loved the sims! I think it was mainly so I could create myself and whichever boy I fancied at the time and would then force us to have a house and live together. Quite weird looking back….! I like the idea of the prison game now though! Charlotte x

Haha I know right… I think everyone did it but thinking back it’s quite creepy haha. I’ve been a bit obsessed with it! x

  • Hey would you mind letting me know which web host you’re utilizing?
I’ve loaded your blog in 3 different internet browsers and I
must say this blog loads a lot faster then most.
Can you recommend a good hosting provider at a honest
    price? Thanks, I appreciate it!

  • My love for The Sims is actually unreal so I’ll definitely have to check some of these out.

I’m actually still in love with a game called Jurassic Park : Operation Genesis for PC. It’s like rollercoaster tycoon but with dinosaurs! Hilarious and addictive, I’ve been playing it for years!

    Great post! 😀

  • I really enjoyed Prison Architect, even did a post on it. haha! I just couldn’t figure out how to get rid of the dead bodies, the online tips did not work.

I also enjoyed Stardew Valley, witch is more farming simulation like.

  • Hey! What are the prices on these games? They all sound so fun!!
