5 New Years Goals & What I hope for 2016

‘Have you made your New Years Resolutions yet?’ is increasingly being asked in the run up to 2016. For once I’m actually making some. The reason I never make them is just because if I want to do something then I’ll do it, regardless of whether the next year is looming. This is personally why I don’t have fitness/health goals for the New Year – These are a lot more to do with working on my head.

My goals for becoming a better person mentally, not physically.

  • ‘Put myself out there’

Honest to god, I have no idea most of the time what this phrase means. Post-university life got me like: [insert gif] I’m going to have to join some sort of group or club… I’ve been planning on it for a while and I’m really trying to find an orchestra/ensemble to join with my violin in Manchester. This is proving harder than I originally thought.

  • Start a YouTube channel

I used to make videos years ago, but I really want to get back into it. Only problem being is that at the moment it’s dark as soon as I leave for work and as soon as I get back. Not ideal and I am not investing in studio lighting. As soon as the lighting gets better, vlogs are happening.

  • Stop being so open with strangers

Firstly, I’ll just clarify what I mean with this. I am very open. But the problem is that I’m open to all the wrong people. I will tell you my life story – the ups and downs and everything in-between to anyone. Then I’ll regret it later on. You have no idea what people do with the information you give them. People are judgemental and it can have repercussions…

  • Firmly put my past behind me

I’m telling you this first, I’m not having the year that I’ve had for the past 3 years. 2016 is going to be awesome. I’m getting my life back.

  • Be more assertive

I can get a little hot-headed when it comes to things… I let myself burst all at once with anger and don’t confront people when I’m annoyed. In some ways, I don’t really understand what the word ‘assertive’ really means. It’s naturally getting a bit better the more I’ve been in the workplace and the more conversations I have with important people – But it still needs work.

I want 2016 to be a fantastic year in which I’ll make new friends, ditch old ones and just generally have a fab time.
